Oudtshoorn is a town in the Klein Karoo area of South Africa’s Western Cape. Although sparsely populated, Hip-Hop culture is alive and thriving in this small community.

As a second generation bboy, Da Vinci Kiewiets recalls being attracted to the dance style at the tender age of 5 after watching his dad and his crew – Black Ice (one of the first bboy crews in Oudtshoorn) perform.

Da Vinci has represented his crew and city both nationally and internationally. He gives his take on the bboy scene in Oudtshoorn, the support they receive internationally and how the rest of South Africa can follow the example of these smaller communities.
